Explore the Gallery’s extensive collection of historic and contemporary First Nations art and design. Through lively and informative discussions about works by emerging and senior artists and designers, students will gain insights into a range of ideas that contribute to the rich diversity of First Nations culture and creativity. Students will explore concepts such as connection to Country, and how artists and designers maintain and regenerate cultural traditions and create new forms of expression.

Students will:

  • Identify and discuss ideas that inform First Nations art, design and culture
  • Examine how First Nations artists and designers use materials and techniques to communicate meaning
  • Analyse and interpret the way identity and culture can be expressed through traditional and contemporary forms of art and design

Duration: 1 hour
Cost: $10.50 per student

This progtram is suitable for all levels, including students of VCE Art and Design. When booking please indicate study focus and year level.

Located on the ground floor of The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia, Wurrdha Marra focuses on exhibiting First Nations art and design, drawn from the NGV Collection. The space offers educators and students a unique opportunity to explore the NGV’s rich and diverse collection of First Nations art and design.
