Developing Interpretations | VCE Literature

Mon–Fri, 10 am, 11:30 am, 1 pm, 2:30 pm
Levels VCE
NGV International & The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia

Explore the different ways we can read and form interpretations using artworks in the NGV Collection. Encounter artworks from different historical, social and cultural contexts and learn to form interpretations through close reading and analysis. Work with educators to discover additional contextual information and alternative viewpoints about the artwork. Consider how this might endorse, challenge or marginalise initial ideas and understandings of views and values.

Students will:

  • Compare and contrast the different approaches and techniques artists and writers use to create meaning.
  • Develop strategies for analysing, interpreting and discussing NGV works from different cultural, historical and contemporary contexts.
  • Discuss the ways that different views and values can influence the interpretation of selected NGV works.

Duration: 1 hour
Cost: $10.50 per student
