Art in China: Then and Now

Explore Chinese art from ancient times to the present day. With an NGV educator, students will discover intricately crafted early antiquities, see traditional artforms rich in symbolism, and view and discuss dynamic contemporary works that paint a vivid picture of China’s past and present.

Students will:

  • Identify and describe how ideas are expressed in Chinese art by comparing artworks from different contemporary, historical and cultural contexts.
  • Discuss the materials and techniques Chinese artists have used to works of art and design. 
  • Consider the influence of Chinese art and culture in history and contemporary life. 

Duration: 1 hour
