About this work

Tracey Moffatt works with photography and video and is one of Australia’s most important contemporary artists. Her series Something More presents a suite of nine stills, each of which captures a cinematic happening. Together, the works depict an ambiguous, unfixed narrative centring on a young woman running from a rural town in search of something more. Moffatt stars as the lead character in this theatrical string of events, performing against lo-fi scenery and a highly saturated background. By only displaying fragments, the artist invites audiences to address the omissions within the narrative and consider who holds power through storytelling.
