About this work

Verner Panton trained and worked as an architect during the 1950s but has become most well-known for his innovative designs for chairs, lighting, textiles and carpets. He took a bold, contemporary approach, employing cutting-edge materials and technologies while always striving to keep his designs functional and financially accessible. His revolutionary Panton chair of 1960 was the first single-form, materially unified chair design to be produced in plastic. Still manufactured today, the Panton chair is light, strong, comfortable, stackable, suitable for mass production, and affordable.
