The 1986 Fallen Angels collection is named after William Blake’s 1790s paintings depicting the rebellious followers of Lucifer who were banished from Heaven. In a 1985 interview with The Face, Galliano commented that 1980s London was being ‘filled with high heels, red nails and tight skirts. Where [have] the little girls gone who used to dress up and play with clothes?’. The collection included the introduction of ‘circle cut’ sleeves and buttons of swirling ‘Fimo’ plasticine.
