John Galliano’s Hairclips collection was inspired, marketed and presented with reference to Hungarian-French photographer Brassaï’s Paris by Night book and Jean-Henri Lartigue’s photographs of 1930s starlets. Models were styled with shingled, greased-back hair fixed by multiple hairclips, hence the collection title. Hairclips saw the inception of one of the designers most coveted silhouettes, a 1920s to early 1930s Madeleine Vionnet inspired bias-cut panelled gown of viscose crepe. The designer continues to construct from viscose for its elasticity and strength.
