Ron Robertson-Swann studied sculpture under Lyndon Dadswell at East Sydney Technical College (now the National Art School) from 1957 to 1959. After moving to London, he studied at the St Martin’s School of Art under Sir Anthony Caro, and between 1963 and 1965 worked as an assistant to British sculptor Henry Moore. While living in England, Robertson- Swann was selected for inclusion in the NGV’s 1968 exhibition The Field, the first comprehensive display of colour field painting and abstract sculpture in Australia. Although Robertson-Swann is recognised for his sculptural practice, he was represented in the exhibition with three paintings, as these could be more easily sent back to Australia than his threedimensional works.
