About this work

During Kagamiiwa Hamanosuke’s wrestling career, spanning March 1830 to January 1856, he reached the second-highest rank of Ozeki. We can find him in the adjoining tournament print as the largest central figure in the sumo ring. Sumo archives note his weight as 139 kilograms and his height as 179 centimetres, and that he was a consistent and popular wrestler.
